Where can you get help with MTD quarterly updates?

As Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT) filing obligations begin for some taxpayers, questions are continuing to arise around quarterly updates and how problems should be resolved. If issues occur, where should you go for help?

Where can you get help with MTD quarterly updates?

Quarterly updates are submitted through compatible third-party software rather than directly through HMRC’s online filing system. This means that some issues, particularly those involving data transfer, submission failures or software functionality, may need to be dealt with by the software provider rather than HMRC.

Other problems, such as sign-up difficulties or questions about filing obligations, may require contact with HMRC instead. Confusion can arise where taxpayers are unsure whether the issue sits with their software, their MTD enrolment or HMRC’s systems. A further complication is that not all taxpayers are currently eligible for MTD IT. Attempting to sign up where exclusions apply can result in rejected applications and delays.

As more taxpayers move into quarterly reporting, understanding where support should come from is becoming increasingly important. Keeping digital records up to date, checking eligibility carefully and resolving issues promptly will help reduce the risk of missed submissions and potential penalties later.
